BS in Economics Program Goals

Program-Specific Goals:

• Goal 1: Equip students with theoretical knowledge, quantitative skills, and analytical abilities to investigate, evaluate, and solve economic problems and various policy questions.
  • Student Learning Outcomes:
    • 1.1 Explain and apply fundamentals of economic theory and policy to different situations in life. Apply economic analyses to their everyday lives and see economics in real-world situations.
    • 1.2 Collect and analyze economic data to formulate problems and produce well-reasoned solutions relating to economic issues and public policy.

 

• Goal 2: Develop creative and critical thinking and decision-making skills for complex business problems, supported by the appropriate use of analytical and quantitative techniques.
  • Student Learning Outcomes:
    • 2.1 Identify and analyze economic rationale for problems at hand.
    • 2.2 Appropriately collect and select data, apply analytic techniques, and develop well-reasoned conclusions.
    • 2.3 Exercise independent judgment and recommend evidence-based solutions.

 

• Goal 3: Prepare students for careers and advanced studies in a wide range of economic fields.
  • Student Learning Outcomes:
    • 3.1 Engage in economic decision-making by addressing the ethical, legal, and social concerns of stakeholders and taking into account global trends, national and regional prosperity, and demands of sustainable development.
    • 3.2 Pursue further study or career advancement using their background in economics and public policy.

    • 5.3 Properly document and synthesize existing scholarship and data, keep current with developments, conduct independent research, and discover and learn new material on their own.
