Graduate Application Requirements

Submitting a complete application is an important part of the holistic admissions process. To confirm that your application is complete and eligible, make sure you meet the below requirements.

1. Application for Admission to Graduate Study

Submit a complete application including all required supplements as outlined on this page and in the application instructions.

2a. English Language Proficiency

Present valid and official results confirming English Language Proficiency typically through one of the following options:

  • TOEFL iBT – refer to target score here.
  • IELTS Academic – refer to target score here.
  • English Language Proficiency Test Waiver – Native and near-native speakers are eligible for a waiver. For more information, please read the English Language Proficiency Test Waiver. To apply for a waiver, submit an application at admissions.aua.am/apply. AUA graduates within past five years do not need to apply for a waiver: they receive it automatic.
  • Internal Assessment – This assessment will be offered during an extended admission interview when applicants may also be assessed on their English speaking, listening, and writing skills. The internal assessment may be conducted in a different format by each program. Applicants should note that both the AUA’s Graduate Academic Programs and the Graduate Admissions Committees will give preference to applicants (with the exception of MBA) who meet English language proficiency through the TOEFL iBT (including Home Edition) test or IELTS Academic (including Indicator) test, or are approved for a Waiver. The AUA Internal Assessment for English is NOT available for MAIRD, MPA and MATEFL applicants.

Score Validity and Reporting

For admission at AUA, the TOEFL iBT/IELTS Academic scores are valid for two years. This means you must ensure to take the exam within two years before the submission date of your application. Official test scores should be sent to AUA directly from the testing service, using AUA’s institution codes as noted below:

  • TOEFL iBT – 4151
  • IELTS Academic – 40 Baghramyan Ave, Yerevan

2b. Graduate Standardized Tests

Depending on your selected field of study, certain programs require official Graduate School Admissions Exam results through one of the below-mentioned options. For the list of the programs that require the test, visit here.

  • GRE (quantitative section) / GMAT (quantitative section), or LSAT
  • Internal Assessment
  • GRE/GMAT and LSAT Test Waiver (for eligible applicants, as described below)

None of these tests are required of MATEFL, MAIRD, MPA, and MAHRSJ applicants.

Internal Assessment: The MPH, MSM, MBA, MSE, MSCIS, and MEIESM programs offer an internal assessment for applicants unable to take the GRE or GMAT. To apply for an Internal Assessment download, complete and attach the following Form to your application detailing math and statistical concepts you have previously studied. You may be questioned about these in more detail during your interview.  Title this document “Math and Statistical Concepts”.

LL.M. applicants unable to take the LSAT test will be tested via in-house assessment. The assessment will include a short analysis of a legal brief and logical argumentation questions, similar to what can be found on the LSAT.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants (except for MBA) who take the Internal Assessment should note that preference will be given to those applicants who can take the GRE, GMAT, or LSAT, or receive a waiver.
